I love the Concert For George.  The thing I like about it is it's all people who really loved him who got together to celebrate his life, not a bunch of trendy morons who are doing it to look like they care.

Like that tribute concert they had for John a few years back? I missed out on that one, but I remember seeing the artist list and thinking "what connection do these people have with John Lennon?"

A little off topic.............but Yoko does these tribute concerts for John in Japan every year and there is supposedly a Puffy track somewhere of them covering a Beatles tune.

There are also some Tamio Okuda-doing-Beatles videos around.

And even though there's no "connection" to the Beatles, Zone does a great job of covering two Beatles tunes at one of these concerts:

You got to love them for the effort.  I thought they did the tunes very well.

As for PuffyPop's list, I only know Puffy and Morning Musume too (well, I've seen Battlestar Galactica, but the music never stuck with me), so I can't really comment.

Haha I really didn't expect any of you to know my albums anyway.
I LOVE that program! though my favourite program, just waiting until my birthday till when I get the next Season!

My god, did someone mention Sloan?  How could you take Navy Blues over Twice Removed?!?

Well, like with the Beatles, there are a handful of Sloan albums -- Twice Removed, One Chord to Another, Navy Blues and possibly Between the Bridges -- that all trade-off as being my "favorite." But Navy Blues was the first Sloan record that really struck me as solid from beginning to end (a couple of Chris Murphy's tracks on Twice Removed try a little too hard to be cute, I think), so I put it on the list.

Yeah, they did "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" (which would have been awesome to hear).

But like ichigo said, for the one particular John concert in the U.S., it seemed more like the artists there were picked because they were trendy or because they wanted the publicity instead of any love for John (which doesn't seem to be the case with the Japanese concerts). That might not have been the case as all, but that was just the feeling I got from it, whereas the Concert for George was obviously a labor of love.

Heehee, if you want some used polka vinyl, I've got some of my grandather's old LPs in my basement. :) Including some "adults only" polka records (!). I can't understand Polish, though -- and that's probably a good thing!

I shudder at the thought of "adults only" polka!  Is there really a need for that?!  Scary!

Off topic (it's what I'm best at!), I was curious to see which bands were actually at the John tribute/memorial/whatever concert, and here's the list:

"Imagine (Yolanda Adams and Billy Preston), In My Life (Dave Matthews), Revolution (Stone Temple Pilots), Dear Prudence (Alanis Morissette), Across the Universe (Moby, Sean Lennon, and Rufus Wainwright), Strawberry Fields Forever (Cyndi Lauper), Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (Marc Anthony), Mother (Shelby Lynne), Instant Karma (Nelly Furtado and Dave Stewart), Jealous Guy (Lou Reed), Nowhere Man (Natalie Merchant), Mind Games (Kevin Spacey), Come Together (Craig David), This Boy (Sean Lennon and Rufus Wainwright), Julie (Sean Lennon), Give Peace a Chance/Power to the People (Ensemble)."

The only performance I remember is Lou Reed's and that's just cuz I sorta like him sometimes.  I think I'm kinda glad I don't remember the rest of it!  I wonder, aside from Sean, was Billy Preston the only one that actually knew John?  Also (again, off topic), sorry Sean, but Dhani Harrison totally wins as coolest Beatle offspring.  Julian can be second.  ;D

Hee. The only thing I remember about it is it had a bright pink cover, with big black letters that said "NOT FOR AIR PLAY."

I was gonna say Julian knew John...but then it dawned on me that Billy Preston probably did know John more than Julian. Anyway, that artist list looks somewhat uninspiring. Kevin Spacey?!?
